This lightweight case was perfect for this lens. It fits perfectly, but not too tight. The case is about 1 / 2 "lined with high density foam. I'm pretty sure that this case would be appropriate to protect a heavy-duty L-series lenses with a 4-5 foot drop. The case of my bag used Tamarac MAS can be, but most of the time I sling the lens and me on the shoulder with the included shoulder strap. This is a very safe, inexpensive lens case that an excellent protection for your valuable lenses. Found 3 of 3 people the following review helpful. Good protection a little tight ... High quality, well padded and have my lens including the lens hood. This is not a small bag. I with my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS lenses in this case. I do not have to be large diameter to accommodate the lens hood. I often leave my big camera bag in the trunk of my car when I go to take pictures. I have a second lens in the lens case and wear it over your shoulder with a strap that comes in the set. When you are about to change lenses.
