Capture the far-off action of fast-paced sports or zoom in for an intimate portrait with the Canon EF 70-200mm telephoto zoom lens. This high-performance, L-series telephoto zoom lens is distinguished by such features as an f/4 maximum aperture, an inner focusing system, and a ring-type ultra-sonic monitor (USM). The last two features combine to deliver quick and quiet autofocusing--a priority for many amateur and professional photographers. In addition, photographers can attach and use a circular polarizing filter without difficulty because the front lens element does not rotate during focusing. Compatible with the same tripod collar (sold separately) used with the EF 300mm f/4L USM lens, the lens carries a one-year warranty. Focal length: 70-200mm Maximum aperture: 1:4.0 Lens construction: 16 elements in 13 groups Diagonal angle of view: 34 to 12 degrees Focus adjustment: Inner focusing system with USM Closest focusing distance: 3.9 feet Zoom system: Rotating type Filter size: 67mm Dimensions: 3.0 inches in diameter, 6.8 inches long Weight: 25 ounces A truly professional L-series telephoto zoom lens, with reduced size and weight for applications where portability is important. Superb optically, it combines a Fluorite element with two UD-glass elements for outstanding contrast and performance. Its ring-type USM is fast, silent, and permits full-time minimum focus, as well as the closest MF of any of the L-series 70-200 designs. It’s also compatible with EF Extenders 1.4x II and 2x II, and accepts an optional accessory tripod collar. Isolate the Interesting Part The eye tends to see the whole rather than the individual parts. It also sees what’s near and not what’s far. By bringing attention to those things missed by the eye, you can create many interesting pictures. It could be the grimace of an athlete, the grill of a classic car, or a girl against a blurred background. Telephoto lenses can also compress images to give dramatic effects. You are limited only by your imagination.

I would recommend this lens for three types of people: 1) People who want to get a taste of L-series, a lens in the 70-200mm focal length needs relatively inexpensive, 2) persons already in possession of 70 - 200mm f / 2.8L IS lens, this great matter, without having to drag around for a long time, 3) persons who have an L-series lens 70-200mm f/2.8 IS not need or want. Call me a wimp, but 1000-2000 shots per shooting day in the field with 70-200mm f/2.8 IS becomes tedious, especially when hand-holding. This lens is relatively inexpensive to L-series glass, the difference in optical quality, almost imperceptibly, from 2.8 and it is sturdy and ergonomic enough to use all day long. When I plan to shoot all day, especially over several days, this lens I take with me is NOT the f/2.8 IS. It's smaller, narrower and lighter, although you might not feel the difference when shooting a few hours, two people of equal strength and stamina to take, and give them to / 4, f/2.8 IS and send them in one day and you know who comes back with sore arms when the day is long. On a 1.6 x body FOVCF, the range of 70-200mm focal length this lens is a little tight, but 1.3x or 1.0x FOVCF this focal range is quite impressive. When I travel, I want to pair this lens with 17-40mm f / 4 and use my feet to the gap to fill between 40 and 70mm (I el-cheapo 50mm f/1.8, so I can shoot in low light and telephoto converter 1.4 x 450mm to give me an effective range) - this is a good package, light and relatively inexpensive. Moreover, while many small money, this lens is not as expensive as of/2.8 versions, and is therefore much less to worry about anything while traveling or shooting under adverse conditions. So far I have not found anything that I do not like about this lens (well, except for a single loss of f/28). I must say that if you are looking for a single general purpose lens to work, it is not. This lens is for specfic purposes. This lens works best as one half of a pair, the upper useful focal length, while using a similar 17-40mm f/4L or 24-70mm f/2.8L lower range of focal lengths to treat. If you are looking for a return anywhere Never change a lens, try the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. It is a great value, the focal length of the sweet spot, and the optics are not bad. Otherwise, if you fit any of the three categories at the beginning of this post, I would recommend this lens for you. 274 of 280 people found the following review helpful. Incredible quality at a reasonable price through mister_t42 In my opinion, this Canon lens the best value in full line of Canon "L" glass (lenses). If you have never used a lens L before, this will open your eyes to what has been losing very fast focusing, sharp images, very little chromatic aberration, and consistent quality throughout the zoom and aperature range. One note, with a larger aperture of f / 4 and a large focal length will not be able to take pictures indoors without flash or lighting excellent. I tried to take pictures of ice hockey, where roads are poorly lit, and had very little success. Even with a tripod that is a challenge to maintain a speed fast enough to freeze the action of a child's play (yes, even at ISO 800). But in a good light or outdoors during the day, sports photos rocks.Great lens. Great pictures of nature. This lens is extremely versatile. Even I used to in the flash for portrait photography. Not much to talk about the downside. Its size and color does bring a little in public, and people can see what you're a professional photographer, I also noticed.
