The compact and highly versatile Nikon 16-85mm wide-angle-to-medium telephoto zoom lens is ideal for a broad range of shooting situations, from interiors and landscapes to portraits. The lens is equipped with Nikon's Vibration Reduction technology, which minimizes the effects of camera shake. This allows handheld shooting at up to four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, producing dramatically sharper images at distance. The lens also offers two extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass elements, which minimize chromatic aberration to produce superior sharpness and color correction, and three aspherical lens elements, which virtually eliminate coma effects and other flaws, even when used at the widest aperture. And photojournalists will love the exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which facilitates accurate, high-speed, ultra-quiet autofocusing. Other features include a Super Integrated Coating (SIC) that offers superior color performance and reduced ghosting and flare; a closest focusing distance of 1.3 feet throughout the entire zoom range; a rounded seven-blade diaphragm that improves the appearance of out-of-focus image elements; and a one-year warranty. Very helpful customer reviews 257 of 263 people found this review helpful. Every day large d80shooter lens I have both 18-135 and 18-200 in, however, this goal has become my everyday go to lens for most of my pictures. The 18-200 is very versatile and I have many good pictures with it. But the softness and CA at the edges very sharp and definitely demonstrates large prints 12x18 and larger (which can have a bad copy). My 18-135, on the contrary, it is thanks sharp throughout the frame and is a good lens. However, the lack of VR a limiter for the use of the lens as a lens, where every day low light, handheld camera is often required. Now at 16 85VR: When you shoot mostly landscapes and outdoor shots, the maximum width of 16 mm was particularly attractive to me. Only 10% or more of my photos are more than 85 mm, so do not think I miss the 85-200 range. Build quality is about as 18-200 without the zoom creep. I conducted informal examination of the stand against my 18-135 lens and high 16-85 showed better sharpness and contrast throughout the entire course of 16mm-50mm for all the openings with the openings Strong F8 and F11 (no surprise) but is wide open strong as well, with very little loss of brightness in the corners, even at 16mm. In the 60mm - 85mm wide, is 18-135 in general slightly sharper (except at f-11, where they are the same) for both the middle and the edges (you have to really hard and pixel peep at 100% view notice the slight difference). Given the great sharpness (especially in the range 16-50mm), RV, and almost total absence of CA-sensitive, I can highly recommend the 16-85 for general use, the lens on the camera's all-time. 117 of 121 customers found this review helpful. Change the 70-300 mm 16-85mm 18-200mm For PhotoBug As an avid landscape photographer, I have been pleased with the convenience of the Nikkor 18-200VR on my D300 (which I love!) But I've been waiting for sharper images and with longer focal length change for the new Nikkor 16-85VR paired with the 70-300VR. Overall I am very happy with the 16-85. My initial observations: - I noticed a significant improvement in the exhibition of photographs of landscapes (not as dramatic interior shots). Outdoors, who regularly takes a 7 -. Image adjustment and tents to be exposed to slightly 18-200. The order of 16-85, the pictures came out much better exposure. The images are better for the eyes and as noted in the histograms comparing many test shots. - The same goes for improved color accuracy. I was surprised to see how the colors were captured with this lens. Again, this is more noticeable in outdoor photos. - The improved image sharpness, it was not as pronounced as expected, but at least equal to or greater than the 18-200 most cases with a shutter speed of at least 1 / 20 sec Surprisingly, my initial test shots showed that between 1 / 6 to 1 / 20 VR was only comparable or in some cases not as good as the 18-200 at all focal lengths 18-85. I often end up shooting at slow speed and I was impressed with the ability to shoot so low with VR II in 16-85 and 18-200. - Balance is better with 18-200. Perhaps this is a minor nit, but for handheld shots, the D300 is slightly more balanced with greater than 18 to 200 16 to 85. Perhaps this allows for a firmer hand at slow shutter speeds. (Note: I realize that this may be a matter of simpily has become so familiar with the feeling of 18-200 on a D300, and the nits can walk away, which I use 16-85.) ) - The angle of additional level 2 is beautiful and it seems that will not mean having to go through my 12-24mm zoom as much - action is slow compared to the 18-200 - but not creep barrel. Shooting with the lens facing downwards no problem with 16-85. Overall this is a good goal that I'm going to continue because it offers such remarkable precision.
