Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Sigma provides the new ultra-wide angle zoom lens from 15mm and this lens is the first of its kind in the world. It can be useful for images of landscapes, large buildings, group photographs or even more. The perspective that changes with the angle-of-view gives picture an extraordinary feeling. Delicate compositions can be adjusted by lens zooming and this is helpful for close-up photography. Provides deep depth of field with its short focal length for amazing photographic expressions. This ultra-wide zoom lens covers a large wide-angle range from 15 mm to 30 mm. With a minimum focusing distance of 30 cm(11.8 inches) throughout the entire zoom range, it is an ideal lens for Digital SLR Cameras. It incorporates hybrid aspherical lens in the front lens group to minimize distortion and astigmatism, and molded glass aspherical lens in the rear lens group to minimize spherical aberration. Minimization of the distortion is a most important issue for zoom lens, but Sigma has succeeded, to provide image quality with minimal distortion by employing aspherical lenses. This lens in corporates an internal focusing system, which eliminates front lens rotation. Since focusing do not change its overall length, this lens is easy to hold and use. Also it is allowing the use of a Petal-type Hood. The lens also incorporates Dual-Focus (DF) mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since the focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, yet it provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens.

Designed exclusively for Nikon digital SLR cameras capable of wide-angle photography, the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 lens is a powerful tool for landscape photography and other wide-angle applications. The lens offers an ultra-wide angle of view of 94.5 to 56.8 degrees, with three special low dispersion (SLD) glass elements and three aspherical lenses providing optimum image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The lens also incorporates a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) to ensure quiet, high-speed autofocusing in addition to full-time manual focusing. Other features include a close focusing distance of 9.4 inches, a non-rotating lens barrel that perfectly suits the petal-shaped lens hood (included), and a one-year warranty. Specifications Focal length: 10-20mm Maximum aperture: f/4-5.6 Lens construction: 14 elements in 10 groups Angle of view: 94.5 to 56.8 degrees Number of diaphragm blades: 6 Minimum aperture: f/22 Minimum focusing distance: 9.4 inches Maximum magnification: 1:6.7 Mount: Nikon Filter size: 77mm Filter size: Petal-type hood Dimensions: 3.3 inches in diameter and 3.4 inches long Weight: 17.5 ounces Warranty: 1 year The 10 to 20 millimeters f4 to 5.6 EX DC HSM lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography with APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras. Wide angle of view (102.4 degrees at 10 millimeters and 63.8 degrees at 20 millimeters) offers the photographer greater freedom of expression. Three SLD glass elements are employed for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. One piece of glass mold and two hybrid aspherical lenses, offer excellent correction for distortion, as well as all types of aberration. This lens is equipped with an inner focusing system, and the models which are equipped with HSM system provide quiet, high speed autofocus shooting and also offer full time manual focusing. It has a minimum focusing distance of 24 centimeters (9.4 inches) at all focal lengths. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the petal shaped lens hood. A circular polarizing filter can also be used conveniently. It covers a superwide angle of view 102.4 to 63.8 degrees Three pieces of Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and three aspherical lens elements produce top quality optical performance. Inner focusing system ensures the length of the lens remains unchanged whilst controlling aberrations. Equipped with HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) system Minimum focusing distance of 24 centimeters (9.4 inches) at all focal lengths Relatively compact, lightweight for an ultra wide-angle zoom lens Note to customers: Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras.

I had no intention of buying this lens, but I'm glad I did for Craig in 1959, went to a local store to look at the angle range of Nikon 12-24mm zoom for possible improvements to the 50 mm Nikon VR 18-200mm 1.8 and that currently use on my D200. After seeing the Sigma 10-20mm, taking test shots with it and Nikon, and then print the photos in the store, I went with the Sigma lens. I had planned to buy Nikon 12-24mm next spring, when my budget would allow the expense. I've had success with Nikon lenses in the past - starting with my first Nikon FM in the seventies. Sigma finishing building, good, good, soft-focused and quiet + fast + 10 mm focal length persuaded me to try my first Nikon Objective 30. An important factor: The Sigma lens is less than half the price of the Nikon lens here is Canada. It fits my budget, so I took the plunge. Sigma fits into my "sharp enough" category. In the real world shooting, the sharpness on a par with my Nikon 18-200mm Lens Both are less sharp than my $ 100 50mm 1.8 as the "test" pictures blown up to 16 "x20" format. I never noticed a lack of sharpness in the "real" pictures. I care more about color saturation, contrast and color balance though. This area is good Sigma. Saturation and contrast are both equal to my other Nikon lenses - especially at f8 and smaller aperatures. Wide open, I think some weakening in contrast. Sigma has a warmer color temperature than my other lenses. A click on a blue in Photoshop would solve that small differences in color. But I use my 10-20mm almost exclusively for landscapes. The warmer color is generally a good thing. I have noticed some vignetting @ 10mm f4. Zoom to 12mm f5.6 or down to weed out the many artifacts in the photos I've taken so far to stop. I thought it was important to prevent "thick framed" filters - and stack filters is a no no with this lens. They cause more darkening of a wide open f-stop BTW: I added a 72 to 77 mm step-up ring for my 18-200m Nikon VR for allowing me to share filters between my zoom lens. I miss having a manual / autofocus switch Sigma. I accidentally pushed the manual focus ring a few times. That said, the incredible depth of this target (or any lens in this focal length) with small errors in focus can be tolerated:) I recommend this lens - even people like me who never had no one lens nikon before. 207 of 214 people found this review helpful. It could be a star, may be 5 stars! Read more: Jim Saueressig'm liked this goal with only three stars because I am through two lenses. Here's why: When I got my goal when I realized I have not received the card extended three year warranty that comes with the American versions of the lens. Instead of just me the extended warranty card Amazon sent me a whole new objective. Now, when I read the reviews before ordering this lens, I have a lot of reviews where the notifier either loved or hated this lens after a while I could see why ... Some of the lenses, the transfer is sharp all around, while some are not at all sharp. Many claimed that it was sharper at F: 8 as Q: 4 while others had told them not at all sharp. Some complained about the distortions and or dull, or over-saturated colors. Finally I found an expert who can try 3-4 different lenses. They found that there seemed a lack of quality all the way around when it came to this special optics. After a few days both lenses, I decided to compare them with me. I'm glad I did. I have my camera on a tripod in the front yard and shot many groups of three for each lens at 10mm, 14mm and 20mm. The results were surprising. The original lens I was sent the first time was the clear winner. The trees and everything else if the image was sharp, the replacement lens was anything but strong color in the lens of two.
